Included in this Blog is the Project Proposal and Final Assignment

Description:

The central ideas for my project are to create a music video which shows three communities that even during this global pandemic are still participating in what they love doing. These three ‘communities’ are: runners, cyclists and walkers. During this isolation period when going out for a daily exercise you are alone, there is little to no cars resulting in empty roads and you’re surrounded by no-one. As a result of this there has been a huge increase of support on all social platforms for these three sports to keep them going and to encourage more people to get involved.

I will be contacting several athletes (see pre/postproduction) and will get them to send me 20- 30 seconds or more of footage that includes them doing their outdoor activity and/or what they are seeing/witnessing around them.

I will then collate these videos together in a music video of what everyone is experiencing. A couple of techniques that will be in the video is some drone footage (example screenshot to the right) this will add some height against the other videos that I will be sent from others. Another technique will be during production after I have received the videos it will focus on how I will be sewing the footage together. Things to consider are: The type of view – is it of city areas/fields? are they moving or are they static? What time of day is it? Do I keep the same sports together or mix them throughout the video?

Colour Palette includes: Greens, blues, whites, browns and blacks – these colours are representing outdoors

The mood and tone of the video will be quite reflective and thought provoking as we look into others experiences of their time during isolation. This could then become quite motivational for those who watch the video and see that even in times like this there is still underlying support even virtually

Storyboard:

These images below are examples of what some of the videos are going to look like and the colours match the palette above and are landscape

I have also said on the message (see pre/postproduction) that if the people themselves want to share a personal reflection of their experience during this time while recording there video then to do so as I will use that in my music video

ree

Pre/Postproduction plan: - Pre-production I will be sending a message to my running club, friends and family. All will pass on the message to others and get them involved too (see below) List of resources needed for the project:

Most of the footage will be third party videos sent from others. These videos will most likely be taken on mobile phones and I will be creating some of my own footage too

Locations will be considered by the runners, cyclists and walkers. I have said that I would prefer if they can focus on areas that usually would be full of people but now aren’t due to isolation

I will be composing the music for this video; I will do this after I have received all the videos (which will be when I have got 3-5 minutes or more of footage) which I can go through and edit. From this I will make the video and compose the music inspired by the footage sent to me.

Music Video Production: Summative Assignment 2: Music Video/Multimedia Project:

Project Description:

In my music video, my main idea was to document three communities: runners, cyclists and walkers. My aim was to show that even during this pandemic people are participating in what they love doing. During isolation’s daily form of exercise, you are alone, little to no cars were around resulting in empty roads and you are surrounded by nature. This escalated the amount of support on social platforms, encouraging everyone to get involved. I contacted several athletes and got them to send me footage that included them doing their outdoor activity, a personal reflection and what they are witnessing around them, I also took some videos myself.

Production Documentation:

In the production method, first I put the videos altogether. I tried different ways of merging them together; the same scenery, sport, landscape or portrait videos. Instead I decided to have them all mixed as it showed the vast contrast I had with each different person’s video. The composition I wrote was inspired by the videos I was sent, it’s minimalistic with slight changes in texture, instrumentation and chordal movement throughout the piece. I wanted to add something which made it relevant to the current situation. I added News reports, hospital sounds and my own recordings of; running, heavy breathing and ambience of outdoors because of the increase of wildlife that is now around when you’re out. It adds a thoughtful tone as it’s a reflection on what is happening in the current climate, we are living in.

All 3rd party content used:

- Videos sent from athletes

- Coronavirus News Reports

- Hospital Sounds

Contextual Reflection:

I think my project sits as a documentary, showing what people are doing in the form of physical activity during lockdown. The context of this video is thought provoking as we look into others experiences of their time during isolation. It could be intended for other runners, walkers and cyclist who are looking for camaraderie during this time and to see that even during this worldwide pandemic there is masses of underlying support even if it is virtual.
